The Westin Kierland Resort is the central hub of the popular Kierland district just a short distance from the Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road. The Ballroom addition consists of a second floor ballroom added above the existing first floor ballroom. The addition includes five ballroom spaces, prefunction areas, support kitchen and a separate Lakeside Terrace. The integration of new MEP installations into existing MEP systems, matching new finishes to the existing resort finishes and upgrading finishes such as a copper wrapped fireplace, backlit onyx panels, and polished travertine plinths complete the project.
Layton’s proactive approach with the architect identified and resolved multiple design conflicts through constructability reviews and document tracking. A seamless transition between the preconstruction phase to the operations is facilitated by intimately involving the project team from the beginning of preconstruction services.
The work was sequenced to allow the resort to remain in operation during the construction period. During this time Layton coordinated with its subcontractors, the resort staff, and the owner’s design firms to drive the project toward completion in only seven months.
