Valley Emergency Communications Center (VECC)

The Valley Emergency Communications Center (VECC) links emergency communications for over half the cities in the Salt Lake Valley. The facility is comprised of two buildings: the Control Center, which houses the technical data equipment and the office building, which houses emergency dispatch personnel and administrators. The Control Center is set on seismic isolator bearings that allow the entire structure to move up two feet in the event of an earthquake.

VECC is dependent on a highly reliable telecommunications system to receive 911 emergency calls; a radio system to communicate with emergency service providers, including police, fire and emergency medical services; and a computer-aided dispatch system for managing system calls.

The facility's CTI system integrates computers and telephones, permitting all dispatch work to be done on the operator’s personal computer. The facility also has an 800 megahertz system, which ties together 21 different emergency dispatch centers receiving and managing emergency public safety traffic.
