Under a joint venture with another construction company, Layton Construction built the Salt Lake County Adult Detention Center. The Salt Lake County Jail represents the largest single construction project in the county’s history. It includes a total of 1,044 cells with 2,088 beds.
The facility has four housing pods, which are each 117,746 ft2; a 44,650 ft2 food services building; a 127,018 ft2 jail support facility; and a central plant and sheriff’s office that total 84,235 ft2.

In addition to being a construction manager for the project, Layton performed all of the concrete work for the housing pods. Layton also constructed a 40,000 ft2 Special Operations Center as part of the project. This facility is used for county operations storage and evidence storage and processing.
