The Peoria Court Expansion project involved renovating 17,700 SF of the existing building and a 19,000 SF two-story addition. Adding 19,000 SF required Layton to redirect site utilities through the existing campus. The remodel and addition required construction activities to take place while keeping the building and courtroom activities fully operational.
The Peoria Courts Expansion project has qualified for a LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council® and in doing so, became the first facility for the city of Peoria to achieve a LEED certification. Through a partnership with City of Peoria Solid Waste, Layton was able to recycle concrete, asphalt, masonry, metal, wood, plastic, paper, glass, carpet and gypsum. Layton was also pleased to be able to salvage doors, ceiling tiles, pews, millwork, trim, cabinets, vents and light fixtures that were either reused on the project or donated to Habitat for Humanity.
