Nature’s Sunshine, a Utah-based natural foods company, expanded their existing tilt-up manufacturing and warehouse facility in 1998 and contracted with Layton for the project because of our concrete experience. The expansion included more than 126,000 ft2 of additional manufacturing and warehouse space, increasing their warehouse pallet position by 5,100 ft2.

Layton finishers poured a 6-inch slab-on-grade in only three pours by using a laser screed. The floor tolerances were high enough to allow the use of an existing fleet of man-up fork lifts. The tilt-up panels -- erected in only four days -- were some of the heaviest panels ever erected by Layton. At 30 ft wide by 40 ft tall, they weighed over 70 tons.

In addition to the warehouse space, Layton constructed office space and four loading docks with mechanically operated dock doors. The owner began installing the racking system over a month prior to owner possession.

The entire facility had to be built adjacent to the existing facility with connections in two locations, so coordination was necessary to accommodate the owner’s needs and the construction schedule.
