The Newspaper Agency Corporation (NAC) is the publisher of Utah’s two major papers, The Salt Lake Tribune and The Deseret Morning News. Moving from separate, out-dated offices, the NAC building now houses the editorial staff for both newspapers and a state of the art production area.

The cornerstone of this facility is the 240,000 ft2 press hall and distribution area. The massive 90-foot high press hall, which has no internal cross-supports, features a 20’ x 30’ x 420’ suspended slab press table with multiple full penetration openings. The slab is superflat with ff60 tolerances on both the top and bottom, effectively having less than 1/8" of variation along the 420-foot surface. The post-production and warehouse areas, adjacent to the press hall, features an additional 35,000 ft2 superflat floor area. Layton’s contract included placing the state of the art German presses, the first of their kind to be used in the intermountain west.

The exterior of the building is also very striking, featuring unique coloration that is designed to reflect the surrounding mountainscape. A 600-foot radiused architectural concrete wall, mimicked on the second floor suspended slab and in an exterior retaining wall, is visible both inside and outside the newspapers’ editorial offices.
