JFS1 (Jones Farm Support Building One) is a state of the art high performance data storage center for a major microchip manufacturer. The facility has the highest watts per square foot in the world, with 527 watts/sf. This unique facility is Layton’s fourth major project for this client, and we continue to provide quality service by meeting schedules and budgets and by creating a strong safety environment.

The building is divided into individual 6,000 ft2 raised metal floor modules. The design incorporates the ability to add up to six modules, however only two were built at this time. Each module is a two-story structure, with flow through for cold air coming from the mechanical equipment at grade level, and then up through the raised metal floor in the data center.

Staying on schedule was the top priority for this client. Layton expedited structural steel and received an early foundation design release from the architect to help keep the project moving. Major mechanical and electrical equipment were built off-site in packaged units to accommodate the extremely tight workspace on an in-use campus. Because this project is located next to the Hillsboro Airport, Layton coordinated extensively with the FAA regarding crane heights and locations throughout the process.
