Gateway Mixed-Use Development

The Gateway, once an old rail yard, is Utah's second-largest mixed-use development with over 2,000,000 SF of residential, retail, office, hotel and entertainment space, plus a 12-screen movie complex. Because of the project’s magnitude – covering more than four city blocks – the client contracted with three general contractors for different portions of the facilities.

Layton built Block B and Area G. Block B consists of office towers, space for the Children’s Museum, a five-story underground parking structure, retail space on both Rio Grande and the north side of the development and the development’s central plant. In Area G, Layton constructed a steakhouse restaurant, a 150-ft tall clock tower, a dock area and retail space.

The project showcases a wide variety of construction expertise including steel framing, curtain wall glazing and GFRC finishing. Premium grade millwork and interior finishes enhance the retail facilities and restaurants.

Tenants opened stores and restaurants in time for the holiday shopping season and the Winter Olympics. Since completion of the development, Layton frequently works with tenants within the complex to complete various TI contracts.
