Cerro Copper contracted with Jacobs Engineering to engineer and construct Cerro's newest facility that will house their manufacturing operations for the Western United States. Layton was awarded the Phase II concrete and manufacturing equipment installation contract. Phase II consisted of 7,000 yards of concrete and the installation and alignment of a large amount of equipment that would occupy the 180,000 square foot facility.
Careful planning enabled work to begin in one corner of the facility and continue backward to the opposite side of the enclosed structure. Elements of the package included structural slabs, suspended slabs, equipment pads, equipment trenches with extensive embeds and bolts that had to be placed precisely for the attachment of the owner equipment. In order for the equipment to run and fit properly, all of the various concrete components had to be conjoined with one another to create one solid system. Quality control was a full-time job as the aggressive schedule allowed for little error. |
