The Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is one of the fastest growing hospitals in Arizona. Layton’s scope of work consisted of three phases: a build-out, an addition and a renovation.

The first phase was a build-out of shell space in the lower level of patient tower C as a new patient bed unit for the medical/surgical and pediatric departments.

The second phase consisted of the construction of a new 10,000 ft2 laboratory building. Also included in this phase were two new levels of shell space, 10,000 ft2 each.
In the final phase, Layton renovated the existing emergency and imaging departments. Included were 13 new ED unit exam rooms, four of which are trauma exam rooms. The imaging rooms include a new X-ray room, four ultrasound rooms, two angio rooms, a CT/PET room, an R/F room and a chest room. There is a new laboratory, reception/waiting area and triage area.

Additionally, Layton was recently responsible for a build-out of 8,500 ft2 of existing shell space to create an Emergency Department Rapid Admission Unit (RAU), the renovation of 1,000 ft2 for a new Pediatric Emergency Department Entrance and a new parking structure. The RAU consists of 18 holding and exam rooms with associated nursing support and administrative space.
