The expansion of Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center included multiple projects, all of which were completed by November 2007. All work was performed while the medical center was fully operational. The project consisted of two steel vertical expansions constructed on an existing 2-story building and interior projects. The exterior finish of the additions is EIFS and is designed to match the existing and surrounding buildings.

Layton first constructed the south vertical expansion shell and core. Approximately 16,486 ft2 were added above the existing cath labs and surgery center. During this phase, Layton installed an emergency generator at the central plant as well.

The second phase of this project consisted of building a new Women’s Center which was an interior build-out of the new south shell and other existing unoccupied areas. The new 24,195 ft2 space contains 12 labor and delivery rooms, 4 C-Section operating rooms and associated support areas.

Work on the last project, the north shell, began in September 2006. This vertical expansion is similar to the south shell and adds approximately 14,500 ft2 to the building. Layton installed 5 AHUs, two of which were relocated from the existing building. During this phase, Layton also added a sign wall parapet to the east facade and added windows for the existing NICU.
