As part of an ongoing effort to revitalize parts of the downtown area, Layton was hired to complete a 15-story hotel on San Francisco’s historic Mission Street area. The new ground-up structure replaced an existing building and is nestled between several historic buildings, some of which were built in the 1800’s.
942 Mission Hotel has 174 guest rooms distributed among the 15 stories. The building has six floors high along Mission Street and five along Jessie Street, the rear terminus of the building, with the 15-floor tower located mid-block. A green roof tops the Mission Street elevation.
The hotel is located on a tight urban site and in proximity to several older structures. These adjacencies required constant communication with tenants and owners of neighboring buildings to minimize impact on their operations. Lean Construction techniques were also utilized to minimize construction related traffic and the amount of time subcontractors spend on-site.
