The new 351,000-square-foot Dunn-Edwards Paint Manufacturing Facility received the Best of NAIOP Arizona 2010 Redevelopment Office or Industrial Project of the Year Award and an Award of Merit from Engineering News-Record (ENR) for Industrial/Manufacturing projects in the southwest region of the United States.
The facility was honored with the 2010 Project of the Year for a Redevelopment Industrial Project at the annual Best of NAIOP Arizona Awards. NAIOP (National Association of Industrial and Office Properties) is an established leading advocate for commercial real estate development in Arizona and around the country.
In addition, Dunn-Edwards earned an Award of Merit for Industrial/Manufacturing projects in the Southwest from ENR. This award program honors the best construction projects throughout the U.S. and the companies that designed and built them. Projects compete in 18 categories ranging from Civil/Infrastructure to Green Building.
Layton worked with Deutsch Architecture Group to create a state-of-the-art, LEED® Gold certified facility for Dunn-Edwards that consolidates and co-locates their manufacturing and distribution processes under one roof. The new facility will increase the capabilities of the Southwest’s leading paint supplier and make it easier to serve customers in Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and California. The project's unique elements include more than 10 miles of process piping, 3,800 individually designed valves and massive tanks used for storage and product mixing. Together with a complicated controls system, the new facility allows Dunn-Edwards to manufacture more than 30 million gallons of paint annually.
“Overall, things went very smoothly for such a big project with so many moving parts,” says Mark Alling, vice president of manufacturing for Dunn-Edwards. “I can’t legitimately think of a single negative from the experience of working with Layton.” When asked about future projects, Alling added, “Layton Construction would be the only ones on our list.”
