The new 81-bed, $11.6 million annex to the Yuma County Jail that Layton Construction's Arizona office is building is expected to open a full month ahead of schedule and come in under budget. Crews began work on the facility in May 2007 and are expected to wrap things up in late August of this year.
"This has been an outstanding construction company," Capt. Eben Bratcher of the Yuma County Sheriff's Office said about Layton in an article written by James Gilbert that was published in the Yuma Sun.
The Yuma County Jail annex project consists of a detention center for juveniles who have been convicted of adult offenses, an underground parking facility, a warehouse facility, administrative offices and a tunnel complex that will connect the existing jail to the annex through a tunnel--allowing the sheriff's office to move inmates between the jail, the annex building and the Yuma County Justice Center securely.
The two-story annex will also include a fully enclosed vehicle maintenance shop and impound lot.
