Layton Construction broke ground today on a 43,000-square-foot Wyoming National Guard Readiness Center in Afton, Wyo.
The $12.6 million design-build facility will include a 31,000-square-foot main building and 12,000-square-foot accessory building. The space will include administrative and recruitment offices, training areas and classrooms, a gymnasium, a kitchen and family welfare areas.
To meet state National Guard and federal military missions, the new readiness center will also include vehicle maintenance bays, a fueling station, loading dock, government vehicle parking and storage, and a small weapons armory.
The facility has also been designed to double as a local community events center, adding to the service the National Guard offers its local communities. It will replace the old 19,000-square-foot structure that was built in 1957.
The new buildings will be built to withstand earthquakes and will provide Lincoln County with a shelter in case of an emergency.
Construction is scheduled to take 15 months and will finish in late summer 2015.
