An official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Seton Medical Center Harker Heights in Harker Heights, Texas was held on April 4, 2011. Layton Construction will build the new 191,000-square-foot medical center, which is being designed by Ascension Group Architects. The project is expected to be complete in the fall of 2012.
The groundbreaking was attended by approximately 400 physicians, nurses, elected officials, educators, community leaders and military leaders. During the ceremony, stones from surrounding communities were presented that will be incorporated into the facility's design, symbolic of community collaboration and support for the medical center.
The 83-bed facility will include a full-service Emergency Department, cardiology, cath lab, diagnostic services, electronic medical records, imaging, intensive and critical care, minimally invasive surgery suites, neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedics, and women's services including obstetrics, gynecology, a Level II nursery and digital mammography. The facility's interior will be decorated in earth tones and will include large quantities of natural light, water features and a courtyard in the women's center. The medical center will boast all private rooms and free wireless access throughout.
A 60,000-square-foot medical office building--the Harker Heights Medical Pavilion--will be built adjacent to the medical center and is expected to be complete next summer.
