Layton Construction Recognized as Top Healthcare Builder

Modern Healthcare magazine released its annual 2010 Construction & Design Survey on March 15, 2010. The Layton Companies, a Sandy, Utah-based general contractor and construction management company, is ranked as the 23rd largest healthcare construction management company in the United States, based upon 2009 construction revenues.

Layton constructed healthcare related projects in nine states in 2009, including Arizona, California, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. Layton completed nearly a quarter of a billion dollars in healthcare work in 2009.

Major Utah healthcare projects completed by Layton in 2009 include the expansion of the University of Utah Hospital campus in Salt Lake City and the Jordan Valley Medical Center in West Jordan.

Companies that participated in Modern Healthcare's national survey report that nearly 3,000 healthcare projects were completed with construction costs of more than $33 billion. Good news for the construction economy that continues to feel the negative effects of a nationwide recession, work was started on 1,864 projects in 2009 that will generate nearly $39 billion of construction revenues. Design is also underway on 3,086 projects with the potential of $66 billion of construction.

Other Layton Construction projects of note include the just recently completed North Canyon Medical Center in Gooding, Idaho; work on the $150 million Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho continues toward a mid-2011 completion; and ground was broken on March 20, 2010 for the $650 million University Health Center in San Antonio, Texas that will be built by joint venture constructor Zachry Vaughn Layton.
